New for 2018 – Best awards for Appaloosa and Modern Grey

In acknowledgment of two emerging colour categories, the 2018 BAS National Show will be offering four ‘Best’ awards for the following alpacas, from within the huacaya and suri multi classes (180 and 280).

Best Huacaya Appaloosa

Best Huacaya Modern Grey

Best Suri Appaloosa

Best Suri Modern Grey

The above awards will be given in the same way that ‘Judges Choice Awards’ are given at some fleece shows. No definition will be used, instead the judges will use their discretion and experience when choosing the winners.

The BAS Board have approved these four special awards for the 2018 BAS National Show only.

Please support these four awards by entering your appaloosa and modern grey alpacas into classes 180 and 280.

For details on sponsoring these four Best Sashes, please email Debbie at

Have you done your registrations yet?

Have you registered your Show Team yet? Alpaca fleece comes in 16 officially recognised colours, so please use the official BAS or ARI colour chart on the mid side of the alpaca when deciding what colour to register your 2017 cria. It is also worth checking all of your show team, as many beige alpacas can turn white after they have been sheared once or twice.

Charts are available via the pedigree registry on the BAS website

The 2017 BAS National Show saw around 30 alpacas changing class due to incorrect colour registration on the Friday evening. Having to move alpacas into a new class disrupts the flow of the catalogue and it is not a good use of the exhibitor and stewards time, at what is, a very busy stage of the show. Thank you.

Happy New Year!

The organising committee of the BAS National Show would like to wish all competitors, sponsors, tradestand holders and supporters a very happy New Year!  We look forward to seeing you all at the Show on 24 and 25 March.

AAFT, testing fleeces for the BAS National Fleece Show

AAFT will once again be testing the fleeces at the BAS National Fleece Show in March 2018.  Since they started offering the service in the UK, AAFT have maintained a close and worthwhile working relationship with BAS, always seeking to improve the quality of alpaca fibre in the UK.  Their motto is ‘providing a comprehensive fibre testing service dedicated to the specific needs of alpaca breeders’.

Our thanks go to AAFT for continuing to offer this valuable service to the BAS National Fleece Show.

BAS National Show Gala Dinner, the chance to relax after a busy day at the Show…

Following feedback from previous years, the BAS National Show Gala dinner on the evening of Saturday 24 March will be a relaxed,  less formal evening in the Olive Tree restaurant (within the Holiday Inn).  There will be a choice of good food, a drink on arrival and entertainment provided by singer Joshua Reeve, before and after dinner. A great opportunity for a fun evening with fellow alpaca breeders, tickets will be available in the New Year.
