Junior Handler and Young Members at the BAS National Show
Judging in the main Show Rings on
Saturday lunchtime:
Junior Handler ages 3-6 years. A fun class to encourage our young alpaca enthusiasts into the ring. Younger Handlers may be accompanied by an adult. Facilitated by BAS Judge Shirley Bettinson
Junior Handler ages 7-14 years. Shirley will be asking our older group of Junior Handlers a little more about their knowledge of alpacas. She will also assess their handling skills when guiding their alpaca on the ‘slalom’ course.
Sunday lunchtime:
Young Masterclass ages 14-18 years. Do you want to learn about primary fleece traits and how the judge assesses these in the ring? What conformation is considered ideal? Gain this knowledge and then judge some alpacas (group work) . Find out how your placings compare with the Judges’ decisions.
Facilitated by the BAS Judges from the 2023 National Show – Roger Clarke and Barbara Hetherington.
Saturday:
Youth Training ages 16-26. Open to BAS Young Members and pen sponsors.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our young members and enthusiasts to get time with two of our BAS Judges. Julia and Tim will be sharing their knowledge and experience gained as breeders, as well as Judges.
13:30 hours: Topic: Assessing the Black Huacaya – what the judge is looking for. This is a an opportunity to get hands on in the pens with BAS Judge Tim Hey.
14:30 hours: Topic: Assessing the White/Light Suri – how are you at assessing lock and lustre? A further hands-on opportunity in the pens with BAS Judge Julia-Corrigan Stuart.
